Our Last 2 Weeks (October 20, 2014)

Hola familia y amigos!!
SO MUCH has happened in the last 2 weeks! So I'll just give a quick summary.
Last week we taught seminary. They were having a missionary week and wanted us to talk to them. It was really early in the morning. I forgot what it was like to have to wake up and be ready by 6 for seminary. How did I do it?! They just have the first period of seminary at 7:20, lucky ducks. We talked about how they could be missionaries, how they could prepare for a mission, and just generally answered questions. Each class was different. So it was fun.
Last Saturday, a lady I taught in Ontario was going to get baptized, so we asked Melissa and David to give us a ride and attend the baptism with us. We headed out and were about 20 minutes away when I decided to call to double check it was going to start on time. Aaaaand Hermana Poblete told me she had backed out last minute. That she didn't feel ready yet... When we were basically already there... We had been driving for 40 minutes already. Awesome. Was there anything in Ontario we could go to in order to make the trip worth it. I suggested we could get some tacos. So we went to La Pasadita taco truck. haha Tacos never fail. And they approved. They said they were actually the 2nd best tacos they had ever had. Alllllright. Worth it. There aren't really good taco places in Nampa. So I had fun. It was a windy night, but we sat out in the little cover structure they had set up to get the whole experience. We just joked about it. Luckily, they are awesome and good sports!
Then as for my birthday last weekend. Sunday night at dinner, they had a cake for me. :) They didn't have candles, but they found one stubby one and stuck that on there so I could blow it out. hahah Reminds me of our family. Then we went out and visited people and looked for birthday miracles. Just little things.
This week, we moved into an apartment. We were living with members, but their grown son was moving back, so we had to move out. They found a little apartment for us. It looks kinda scary on the outside, but the inside is nice. They remodeled and fixed up a lot of it, so mostly everything is new. It's 2 stories. The kitchen and living room are on the bottom story and our room and bathroom are upstairs. It's fun and an adventure. We're going to decorate it for Halloween. :)
We also talked to a Jehovah's Witness lady this week. I haven't actually run into too many of their missionaries since I've been on my mission. That surprised me. But we met one lady who is a missionary for the Jehovah's Witness and just talked to her a little bit a few weeks ago. She said we could come back and talk to her, so we finally did this week. It was interesting. She wanted to try to prove the Book of Mormon wrong by giving us scriptures that contradict her Jehovah's Witness Bible. We just told her that that's not our purpose, to try to prove anything wrong or right, just to teach what we know and believe. That it's the spirit that really testifies and is the real teacher. She interrupted a lot and didn't want to give us a chance to talk. We discussed it later and it seemed like she started to get scared because she felt the spirit and didn't want to believe it. At this point, she doesn't want to change her beliefs, so she's not really listening to us. She's mostly preaching when we talk. We're thinking that maybe we'll let her spend a whole day and just tell us what she wants to tell us and teach what they believe in exchange for her allowing us to actually talk. We'll see. When we left, it ended on a good note. And we were patient and hopefully left a good impression.
That just made me think of how important the Book of Mormon is. We use both the Book of Mormon and the Bible (King James version). They both teach of Christ and we learn more about Him by studying their words. But I especially love the Book of Mormon because it was written for our day and in words and stories that are easier to understand. It has helped me a lot in my life and I know that through any problem or thing you're going through in life, if you are seeking help, you will find that help in the Book of Mormon. It's really kinda cool how that works out, actually.
I hope you all have an amazing week and are able to see the miracles every day!
Con amor,
Hermana Shirley

We were walking along, knocking on doors, when I took a step and saw this little baby slither away.

Ducks shop at Walmart too!
