Halloweeee wee weee weeeeen! (November 3, 2014)

Hola familia y amigos!
This week. Well, it was one of those weeks where you seem to be running around but nothing really happens. BUT, we still had some cool experiences.
First of all, it rained here. Pretty hard. But it was actually kinda nice. I just wish I hadn't worn my "holy" shoes that day.
Second of all, Halloween. We were super excited for it. Decorated our apartment and even made little bags with candy and a pass along card. Theeeen no trick or treaters ventured back to our apartment in the dark... Bummer. So we just went to bed early. Because it's a rule that we had to be home early. At 6:30. So we had extra time. We got stuff done and were able to go to bed at 9:00!! So exciting. It's possible that people stopped by after we went to bed. But it was already dark by about 7:30 and no one came in an hour and a half. So we figured no one was going to come. All in all, we got to go to bed earlyyyy! THAT'S how we celebrate as missionaries.
We also had a kinda funny experience. We went to go check an address of a member on our ward directory. We started walking to the house, when we see a group of 4 people talking right outside the door. Awkward... We didn't want to just walk up to a group of people. Sooo we just keep walking down the street. Then we stop a few houses down and just decide that we should head back. At this point, it's already getting dark. But we head back and the group of people had moved to a different house. So we walk up to the house we were going to contact and one of the men comes up to us. He lived there and had seen us get out of our car and thought it was weird we had just walked by. hahah He was a member and he told us his wife's sister was the one we were looking for. But she was in Mexico. So we just talked to him for a bit and he was a really nice man. He even told us about a few different people we could try. Blesssssings! We just had to get over our fear of awkwardness and it paid off.
Another cool experience we had was we went last night to try a family we had talked to before but when they were busy. Their names are Rosario (mom) and Adamaris (daughter). We walk up to their house and the dad, Libney, is outside, working on the siding outside. We go inside and at first, Rosario seemed really stand-offish. But then we talked to her and Adamaris and explained a few things. Then she tells us that she was thinking about being baptized in our church and that her Libney wanted to be married officially in the church too. We started teaching her a little and she was really receptive. Then, she gets up and starts making dinner. Adamaris said her favorite was macaroni and cheese, so Rosario started making it. I ended up finishing it up. Then she invited us to eat with them. It was totally out of the blue. But we ate the mac n cheese and talked and joked around. Then by the end, Rosario was wanting us to stay for the rest of the night. We told her we had to go, so she asked us if we wanted to go with her to Walmart. Uhh. hahah nope. 1) It's a Sunday, 2) we had already been with her for an hour, 3) we can't just go with people to the store. She kept trying to get us to stay and wanted our company. Eventually, Hna Ekonomo checked her clock and said that we had to be home by 8 (it was about 7:45 right then). As she said this, I was drinking some juice and just about started choking/laughing. But had to compose myself. That was the only thing that was going to get her to let us go. And she did. We left and as we walked to our car, we laughed and were super excited about how prepared she was for the gospel. It was a really cool experience.
As for what I've learned this week, I read a talk this morning called "Cast not away thy confidence." It was by Elder Holland. It talks about how when we really need revelation and get an answer from God, how we have to remember those answers. Remember those spiritual experiences. And then, we have to take those answers and have confidence in them. We can't have fear or doubt spiritual promptings we've gotten. That's what Satan is trying to get us to do. He wants us not to be happy. So he'll keep us from going forward with decisions that will make us happy. He gave the examples of deciding to be baptized, to go on a mission, or to get married. Those are big decisions that will change our lives. And Satan wants to keep us from making those decisions or going with what Heavenly Father has told us to do. So I learned that we have to seek revelation with a true need and desire to act and then once I've received a spiritual witness, not to doubt it. I know that after I made the decision to go on a mission, I was nervous about whether it was the right thing for me. I totally felt that fear. But I just had to press forward with faith and trust that Heavenly Father wouldn't lead me astray and wouldn't let me go too far into a path I wasn't supposed to do. And THAT is what Elder Holland is talking about. That we have to press forward with this faith and truly enjoy that happiness that comes with following spiritual promptings.
Hope this helps and lifts in your day and have a WONDERFUL week!
Con amor,
Hermana Shirley

This house DECKED OUT in Halloween decorations outside. This was one of the most normal ones. They had zombie babies eating each other and decapitated heads hanging on strings, if you can imagine. Buuuut I felt like you all wouldn't want to see that.
