Familia y amigos!
We had quite the week! Whenever I sit down to email, I can never remember anything we did, but when I'm in the midst of it, I just think to myself how awesome it is or how I have to email about it. So I DO remember thinking to myself this week that we were having an awesome week. Struggles of a missionary.
So we had stake conference this week. Pretty exciting stuff. Elder Sexton came and spoke to us. He's infamous for calling random people out to bear their testimonies. Before the Sunday morning session, I was standing there, talking to a member when he walked by and we introduced ourselves. I thought to myself, "Oh boy. Now there's a POSSIBILITY of him calling me up." But it didn't happen. So I was off the hook!
But a kinda funny story happened. Before the Saturday session of conference, we had about an hour before our dinner appointment and we had already done all we had planned. So I thought it was a good idea to just walk to the neighborhood of dinner and we'd run into someone on the way and have a really cool experience, right? Sooo I look up on the GPS how far away it is. Didn't look too far. About 10 minutes driving. We had a whole hour. We'd be fine. What I didn't realize is that it was 10 or so minutes on 50 mph roads. So we started hiking. The first 20/30 minutes was on paved roads with a sidewalk. Awesome. Piece of cake. About 20 minutes later, we'd been walking along the side of a road without a shoulder and the occasional pokey bush (that give off spikey balls of death, called goat heads. If you've ever encountered them, you know how terrible they are) that slowed us down a bit. Then we got another block and decided that if we didn't see the neighborhood soon, we'd have to call them to come pick us up. Just a few minutes later, a car pulls over and they offer us a ride. They were members and looked up the address. Turns out it was another 5 minutes driving... We hopped in and made it to our dinner appointment exactly on time... No grand miracles except the members pulled over at EXACTLY the right time to get us there on time. And I found a pretty cool bent fork on the side of the road that I saved. Don't worry, it wasn't that dirty. And I washed it. I won't be eating with it. Soooo we walked quite a while and enjoyed the experience even though it mayyy not have been one of my brightest.
Another cool thing that happened is that a few weeks ago, we talked to a lady who asked us a question. She asked us where the races of the world came from? She asked if there was any answer in our religion or from the Bible of Book of Mormon. So we told her we'd study and get back to her. We still haven't gone back and had time to answer that for her, but we studied it and found the answer. THEN, last night, we were with a different family we're teaching and kind of out of nowhere, she asked that SAME question. I HAD THE ANSWER! So we explained it and did our best to answer it for her. It was really cool that we had prepared before and then we got to use that knowledge last night with someone we didn't even expect.
To me, that just testified of Heavenly Father's love for us. He has things planned out and helps us out. AND He gave us the Bible AND the Book of Mormon to help and guide us. Super cool. I love being a missionary!
Hope you all have an amazing week! LOVE YOU!
Con amor,
Hermana Shirley
We walk up and find this bundle of happiness. SO ADORABLE. The three were all huddled together cause it was cold. The black one on the back moved as I was getting my camera out.
The Halloween candy bags we put together for trick or treaters... None came.
