Oregon thanks you for coming. Come back soon! (June 30, 2014)

Familia y Amigos!
Finished week 1 in Ontario! Not gunna lie, probably the toughest week of my mission so far. Getting to know the area and people and learning their stories and what they need. And the poor branch here. There's a lot of problems and people who got offended and all sorts of stuff that we have to get back up and running. There's a lot of work that needs to get done and things that need help. So we have our work cut out for us. But we got it! There's a reason there are sisters here now!
About Ontario, well. We have a little branch here. Bigger than Kuna, but still pretty little. The people that we have met are super awesome and willing to help us. There are at least 2 taco trucks that we've seen and 3 Mexican food restaurants. There's a Walmart and Red Apple. Everyone uses landmarks as directions instead of addresses. Ontario/Fruitland area is a huge distributer of onions and we are so lucky to live right across the street from Dickinsons, the biggest warehouse around. Haha When we want a nice breath of fresh air, Onionnnnns! But it's mostly just really funny. We actually live in Fruitland, which is in Idaho, so we drive across the border every single day and see the "Welcome to Idaho" or "Welcome to Oregon" signs. We live in a little apartment thing on top of a chiropractor office, owned by members. And we came in right after elders, sooo we had a lot of cleaning to do when we first came in. It's pretty ghetto, but it works. We didn't have a toaster, so we asked the mission office. We got to choose and we got a purple one! It's seeming more and more like home as we settle in.
This week, exciting things that have happened, not too too much. We got lost a few times and had to call or wait for directions. Classic me.
We met this family, the Moncadas, who are really awesome and were talking to us then mentioned that they have chickens. I asked how many they have. They said over 100... Wait, did I hear that right? Yep. We went and looked. They have TONS of baby chicks. In their little backyard. They were all over the place, running around. And when you tried to catch one, they'd scatter. It was super funny!
I spoke in church yesterday! In Spanish. Second time speaking in Spanish on my first week in a new area. It was a LOT less nerve-wracking this time. I was still nervous, but I did it. I didn't have to look up as many words. Hah
What I talked about was based off of the scripture in D&C 130 about how blessings are based on our obedience. I studied both the commandments and the blessings that come from the gospel. It was an amazing reminder to me just how blessed I am because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have peace and happiness in my life, even through trials. All because of Christ and my knowledge of His plan for me. Miracles and all good things come from God and when we do what's right, things just manage to work out. It's not coincidence. The blessings and good things that come from this gospel are the reason I'm out here. Sharing that with others.
Hope you all have an amazing week and stay safe!
Con amor,
Hermana Shirley

We got new water bottles. Yayyy. Hydration!

We were looking up Sierra Vista APARTMENTS and we learned a new word: Aptartments. Hahah

I tried to get all the Moncada's chickens, but this was the best I could get.
